| The Thoroughbred is a remarkable breed of horse, although not a new breed, but still a relatively young breed. Highly developed and highly versatile, comes in a wide range of types, sizes and temperaments. Unlike arab or quarter horses, the thoroughbred has not really been bred for anything other than racing, except for eventing, but even then ex-racing stallions are often used. Which is a shame as the thoroughbred could potentially be developed to specialise in other equestrian sports, like dressage, showjumping, showing, western etc. Over the years the thoroughbred has been used to improve other breeds, the Sadlers Wells stallion Accondy has been dual registered as a Hanovarian, simply because he has all the right qualities to help improve the Hanovarian breed. This site aims to help create awareness of the potential of what TBs can achieve in other spheres and to help those who wish to give the retired racehorse a home, so although my own passion lies in racing it also lies with this most amazing horse, from it's middle-eastern history to one of the fastest and most courageous breeds on the planet. |

| I created this site because of my passion for this breed of horse, 'the thoroughbred'. Through my own involvement with the breed and racing, covering nearly 30 years, and personal experiences of friends and myself having ex-racehorses, also seeing the many problems people have had taking these horses on, I felt that I can be of assistance to many through the use of the internet. By the time people contact me they are already having problems. Although there are many welfare groups and 'retraining of racehorses' organisations, that are doing a marvelous job, still many people take these horses on and try to do the job themselves, without any advice or help, not realizing what they are letting themselves in for. So for any horse related queries, whether large or small, I will endevour to advise or put you in touch with someone who can. Lynda |
